Today, drustvosns.org would like to introduce to you How to Fix Sticky/Stuck Buttons on an Xbox One Controller – No Soldering Required!. Following along are instructions in the video below:
“You ever had or just a really greasy gaming session and you spill a root root beer or some sort of drink on your controller and you have sticky buttons today in this video. I m gonna show you how to fix that problem what s up guys my name is kuba. I m a powder and rc gaming and today. We re going to be fixing the sticky buttons on an xbox one controller.
So this control in particular of having a problem with both of these staton back buttons. That just that is sticking in a little bit. I think somebody spilled to drink on this so this fix is going to work for any of these buttons. If you just spilled something it s just sticky and it s just giving you a hard time.
We re gonna address that problem here. Today alright guys. So the tools you ll need for this controller is some sort of prying tool. A torx t6.
Security screwdriver and a tox t8 security screwdriver. All right let s do it so first up you re gonna need to grab your prying tool flip your controller over and then i pop the battery cover off and take out the side panels. So right here. I like to hold down the trigger you can slip your prying tool right in between and then right now you re going to want to pull it off instead of kind of bending it if you bend it you might damage the trigger a little bit.
So you just want to be careful of that but they should come off pretty easily just put them aside alright. So the next step so there are five screws on the back of the controller and so for this pot. We re going to be using our torx t8 security screwdriver and so the screws one two three four and five. And so we re going to go ahead and take those out we re going to want to peel down the sticky label before i get this one.
I think it makes it look a little cleaner rather than just sticking the screwdriver through the middle of it just what i like to do alright. So five screws out now we can take the front shell off the controller alright. So now we ve got to get to these two buttons right here we want to fix this stick we want to make it actually work properly so to do that we got to get right deep into the controller. So now we re just going to take the back shell off take the analog sticks off also all of these come off really easy and next pop this one this one can be kind of tricky.
It s pretty easy..
Though you want to make sure you take your pry tool. And there s two little tabs right here. And so we want to get this whole bump of our off on top. So.
If you just slip it under a little bit just give it a little pop up on both sides. It should just be able to come right off just like that and then you re gonna remember to put your sync button. This you don t forget about it and now we re going to want to flip it over and so for this next part. We re taking our torx.
T6. Security screwdriver. We re just going to pop. This wire off.
Really easy. And so now there are two t6 screws here and here all right. So let s take those out. And so the great part of this fix is that you re not gonna need to use a soldering iron.
You don t have to worry about these wires or anything it does make it easy to take them off but for this video. I m gonna make it easy for you guys and you won t have to mess around with that. Stuff and so right. Here this is your 35.
Millimeter. Jack. You want to make sure you put that aside. And don t forget about it later on i m going to take out t6.
And there s another six screws on the back. One. Two three four five and six and let s take those out all right so once you ve taken these six screws out now we can get to the buttons. And so this circuit board underneath should be able to lift right up and take out there s also the button pad that sometimes sticks to that you want to make sure you pull that out also and so now we can dump out the buttons.
And so a problem here was these two buttons. They re just kind of sticking a little bit seemed like something was spilt in there. And it was just pretty sticky. So to fix this problem.
We re going to want to not only clean off these buttons. But also clean off the plastic bit in here. And so the best way to do this is some sort of rubbing alcohol. Really doesn t matter what you use as long as it s just strong.
It should be able to well clean. It up and get you control of walking like it s brand new again all right and so this pot gets a little time consuming. But you want to make sure you do it right so that way when you put it back together. You don t have to worry about anything.
And it ll basically make it feel brand new again all right and then one thing that you re gonna want to make sure you do here is do a really good job on this pot. It may not look like it s as important. But it really is because this is this is the pot that makes it stick the mars so you want to make sure you stuff it as far in as you can and just wiggle it around the worst thing that can happen here is you put it back together. And it s still sticky and you go to go back in and do it so that s why i stress the importance of making sure you do it right the first time and it ll just save you the trouble in the long run all right.
It s looking pretty good this like it s a little bit left to get making sure we do it right so we can come in from the front side. Too all right that should be good. So let s let s put this thing back together all right so. All the buttons obviously just go back in where they came from they all have little slots on the back.
So that they ll slip into the right hole..
You d have to worry about putting the wrong button in the wrong spot. We make videos like this all the time we like to make a lot of these fix it videos and tutorials on just how to do stuff so. If you guys are interested just feel free to check out our channel and subscribe posting tons of content for you guys. It s gonna be some really good stuff all right so we ve got our button pad back on now.
It s time to put our circuit board back in and so we can slip that and just where it came from it should kind of clip in a little bit so in this next pot. You re gonna make sure you hold the control up a little bit so that the buttons don t push through you only have to do this for the first two screws you get in that just avoids any other problems sometimes they can push through and when you have it all back together the button just still won t work so once we got these two screws in we re gonna toss it over and see what it looks like there we go these buttons feel much better all right so go ahead and put the rest of the screws in all right she got olia screws in important thing not to forget is your 35. Millimeter jack. So before we go any further.
We re going to slip that back in with the metal prongs facing upwards and then this second circuit board should just line right up and clip right in just like that so now we re going to take a little why here and line. It up just right on top of it and then just give it a little bit of pressure from the top and there you go it sticks right in okay. So now we have two screws left right here and here. So let s go ahead and do that okay now that we got those in we can flip it over so the next step.
We re going to take our bumpers and put those back on so again. Remember your sink button put that in first make sure it presses properly with these pieces you can actually separate them quite easily this one seems to be sticking on pretty well. But just give me a second here jeez never had one stick on this much with one there we go alright. So that pops off just like that this makes it ll be easier breaking it down into smaller pots.
So we re gonna take these bumpers and i m gonna put that on fast and sir so we re gonna line it up and give it a little pressure and there we go now the bumpers are on alright. Sir. Now we can grab a middle piece and this one should slip on relatively easily you don t make sure you slip. It over the charging port and then once you got that it ll just clip right over the top just like that and double check your sync button.
Works. And we re good to go so. Now. We can put it out analog sticks back on their little oval shaped and they just slip right on really easy just like that and now we can put out backshell back on when you re putting your backside back on an important thing you want to make sure you re doing is making sure that these two prongs right here go through the back.
So when you put them on and you can pull the triggers to clip..
It in so you see this is where the batteries connect so sometimes it can get stuck behind the shell. And you just wanna be able to play with batteries. And that s just really frustrating. So everything looks like it s clicked back in so now we can take out a front shell.
I m actually gonna be changing out this front show this one looks a little dirty. I m gonna slap a fresh one on it this one is a couple faded soft touch. I really like this one. I think.
It s going to look awesome okay so now that we got that on we can move on to our torx. T8. Security. Screwdriver and put the rest of the screws back in and see here with sticker.
I ll just put it right back over the top looks like we never even touched it. If you guys have found this video. Helpful so far. Please feel free to leave a like and subscribe to our channel.

And i ll click right on same to both sides just like that and put our battery cover back on and here we go so today we fixed an xbox one controller with sticky buttons.
