“I m george cow. And this is a short video to show you how to to add a note or comment to a google spreadsheet so that it makes the easier to manage so why why do we add a note or a comment. So basically for example here in this spreadsheet. You can see that most of the rows are our you know nicely manageable.
But then there s here s there s one row that has a really long content. Which just makes it hard to scroll you know so this should either be a note or a comment. So what s the difference between a note in a comment. Here s the difference.
If you are just working on the spreadsheet for yourself. If you re not going to be collaborating. It s just for yourself then add a note. But if you re going to be collaborating with other people it s better to add a comment.
It s not recommended to add both to the same cell because it ll kind of mess it up. But you ll see i ll show you so for example here. Let s say. This was just my own spreadsheet.
Nobody else needed to to see this or nobody else was going to be collaborating on it then i would just i m just going to move this over a little bit. I m just gonna take this cut that okay and see now suddenly. It s much easier to manage that row. It s not so it s not it s not super long like it was before right right super tall okay.
So i m just gonna cut this out. And to add a note. You simply right click oh. And don t those of you who use a macintosh.
Mac. Computer. Right click is basically hold down. The ctrl key on your keyboard.
And then click ok. And then when you right click or hold down ctrl and then click. There s this thing here called insert note you click on that oh after you right click when you click insert note you should take off the ctrl key just left click on insert note that s kind of confusing i know but again right click or control click. And then once you ve done that let the ctrl key go if you re on the mac or you re on a windows.
Then scroll down here and just left click the insert note and then you could paste in the i m pacing. The thing that used to be there. And so now you can see that this black triangle pops up which shows that there s a note there and for people to see the note. But for you to see the note.
You simply move your mouse over that cell. And then notice. There and then you can click on the note. And you can make that it s to the note or you know add more to it etc.
Okay. And if you have a note. There. It s usually good to to double click.
The main cell and type c. Note. Okay. Now if you re collaborating with other people.
Though okay. I m just going to show you a different example. Let s say you re collaborating with someone else. It s better to insert a comment instead of a note.
So let s say i wanted to insert a comment and i ll show you what comment looks like a note looks like this right nobody knows who wrote it okay. Nobody knows who wrote it and it s a black triangle. A comment has an orange triangle and you can tell who wrote. It by moving a mouse over here.
Ah raphael wrote this and even there s even that a timestamp and then you can click see more and to show the full comment. If i click resolve it ll disappear that comment into the archives. So i don t want to do that i want to keep it here. And the nice thing is i can you know yeah.
Okay. I m not gonna do this right now. Because i m not logged in so he won t know that it s me they ll say anonymous. But the nice thing about comments is you can have a conversation.
Let me show you what i mean so let s see i m just gonna insert a comment in this in this one to insert a comment right click or control click and then scroll down and click on insert comment and i m not logged into my google drive account that s why it says anonymous. If i were logged in it ll say my name and picture. But testing comments click comment and you can see here timestamp. The comment itself.
The comment can be long right as you can see as you as you as you saw here. The common can be long and it ll say they ll say show more. But the nice thing about comments again is people can collaborate with you so or i can collaborate with myself to see. When i wrote the comment testing and comment second comment.
Okay and as you can see now. There s a thread. A conversation thread within that cell that people can see when they just hover over this testing comments testing set in common if i wanted to delete a comment. I simply click on here and then i click either edit or the to delete this particular comment so i hope that s helpful have fun google spreadsheets again only do either a note or comment in a single cell.
